The sixth annual U-LEAD Conference is back and better than ever. This year’s conference will consist of 16 unique breakout sessions, a student leadership panel, a complimentary dinner and to conclude the night, a keynote presentation titled “HEART of a Leader”, by Bobby Audley, a motivational speaker best known for his TED talk, “The 50 Cups of Coffee Challenge.”

This event is sponsored by Leadership U, Fraternity and Sorority Life, Kearney International Center, Student Activities, Student Government, Delta Sigma Pi, and the Residence Hall Association. The conference will be held on October 22nd, 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. in the Centennial Student Union Ballroom.

The U-LEAD Conference was originally put on by Fraternity and Sorority Life, who created the event in 2013. However the following year, in 2014, the group decided to provide an opportunity for other recognized student organizations (RSOs) to participate. Since then, the number of partnerships has grown, with the largest number of partnerships being this year, with seven Minnesota State University, Mankato affiliated sponsors.

The hosts for this year are as follows: Fraternity and Sorority Life, Leadership U, Kearney International Center, Student Activities, Student Government, Delta Sigma Pi, and the Residence Hall Association.

The conference sponsors, as well as other campus programs and RSOs, are contributing to the conference with 16 different breakout sessions, proving a wide range of topics to choose from. Emi Menk, the Assistant Director for RSOs, Leadership, and Nontraditional Students at Minnesota State University, Mankato comments on a few of the featured sessions.

“We have somebody from Wells Fargo coming to talk about personal finances as leader, we have somebody talking about event planning, and the Leadership U student board is doing a session on ‘what is leadership and why does it matter?’”

Additional session topics will be released in time as the date of the conference nears.

As for the keynote presentation, a press release provided by Andrew Weinzierl, the PR & Marketing Coordinator for Student Government, gives an insight into the keynote speaker’s credentials and experience.

“Audley is able to bring a group in through his warmth, humility and tremendous ability to connect to life. After his time as an NCAA lacrosse player, Audley spent three years working for Project Ascent, specializing in team development. Audley founded his own speaking company, Outside the Zone, and has been featured on TEDx twice.”
