Maverick Spotlight: Mary Fixsen

This week’s Maverick Spotlight features Mary Fixsen, a Senior on the MSU Women’s Track & Field team. Fixsen is from Redwood Falls, Minn. Fixsen is primarily a sprinter and has competed in multiple events throughout her time as a Maverick. In the 2017 Indoor season, Fixsen earned a first-place finish at the MSU Birdman Open in the 600-meter dash running it in 1:42.03. Let’s get to know Mary better.

- Hardworking, Determined, Go Getter
- What tops your list of pet peeves?
- People who eat with their mouth open or the sound of people chewing loudly.
- As the only human left on Earth, what would you do?
- I would probably cry because I would be so alone.
- What’s the dumbest thing you’ve done that actually turned out pretty well?
- Driving 25 hours straight in a car on a road trip with friends.
- Who is your all-time favorite sports star?
- Michael Jordan
- What is your most prized possession?
- My dog Jemma who is a Pitbull- boxer
- What three items can always be found in your refrigerator?
- Eggs, Cheese, and Ranch
- What is the most impressive thing you know how to do?
- I can do a three-leaf clover shape with my tongue or I can write with my left hand
- Who’s your go to band or artist when you can’t decide on something to listen to?
- Needtobreathe
- What movie title best describes your life?
- Road Trip
- What is the luckiest thing that has happened to you?
- Winning the NCAA March Madness women’s bracket and winning a free T-shirt for it.
- What is something that a ton of people are obsessed with but you just don’t get the point of?
- The woah challenge or the Tik tok app
- If all jobs had the same pay and hours, what job would you like to have?
- A dog sitter cause I love dogs.
- Who inspires you to be better?
- My family. They have always supported throughout everything I’ve been a part of.
- What is something you will NEVER do again?
- Eat too much before a hard track workout
- What TV show or movie do you refuse to watch?
- South Park
- If you could have a super power, what would it be?
- Invisible
- If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do?
- Pay off my student loans
- What type of music would you (do you) sing in the shower?
- All kinds. I like all types of music. But probably pop music.
- What do you like most about Minnesota State University, Mankato?
- My professors are really amazing and supportive of me. I like that the MSU community makes the campus feel like home.
