“The culture of Saudi Arabia is a rich one that has been shaped by its Islamic heritage, its historical role as an ancient trade center, and its Bedouin traditions. Saudi traditions are rooted in Islamic teachings and Arab customs, which Saudis learn about at an early age from their families and in schools.”
The words from Fadwa Alamri, President of the Saudi Students Association, provide some excitement and insight into the celebration of Saudi Night coming to Minnesota State University, Mankato, this Friday, April 26. The event in the CSU Ballroom starts at 6:30 p.m.
The event hosted by the Saudi Students Association will “reflect the actual image of Saudi Arabia” through various cultural related things such as the country’s archaeology, food, history, dance and politics.
“Students, in general, have curiosity toward this region of the world, as it is a central debate in the political world and non-political,” Alamri said. “We will make sure that they understand the perspective for the native people of Arabia as it is, which may surprise many who intend to take their information and perspective from the western media which usually make misunderstanding of the region.”
The Saudi Students Association hopes the event helps change people’s perceptions about their home country.
“Saudi society has experienced tremendous development over the past several decades. The people are facing social change within the mass of events, but it’s crucial to remain close toward our identity and culture,” Alamri said.
Tickets are still available and can be purchased for $8 from the Saudi Students Association at its CSU MavAve tabling site between noon to 3 p.m. Tickets at the door will cost $12.P
