Popular College Band Kicks Off Fall CSU Serendipity Music Series
Picked “poised to pop” as one of the Twin Cities top bands, Yam Haus opens the Fall 2019 season of the Serendipity Music Series at Minnesota State University, Mankato with a mid-day outdoor performance on Thursday, Sept. 12.
The free performance in the CSU Hearth Lounge will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Yam Haus was selected by City Pages among top 10 Minnesota bands “poised to pop” in 2019 and was labeled by the Minneapolis Star Tribune as the “most in line for commercial success.”
The Minneapolis-based pop group performed at the 2019 Basilica Block Party and will headline Dec. 13 at First Avenue. Also a favorite among college campuses across the Midwest, Yam Haus fall bookings include Winona State University, North Central University, Century College, Coe College and Gustavus Adolphus.
CSU Communications Coordinator Lenny Koupal, who oversees the music series, said there was a bit of serendipity surrounding Yam Haus joining the Serendipity Music Series fall lineup.
“We are so fortunate to have Yam Haus perform as part of this series,” Koupal said. “It’s not always easy to book daytime gigs, particularly for a band on demand. It just so happens they are returning from an Iowa performance and agreed to a stop-over. I invite the campus community to bring their lunch and come out to hear them. You won’t be disappointed.”
The Serendipity Music Series hosted by the Centennial Student Union, offers a fall and spring lineup of Minnesota musicians performing free “street-corner serenades” in and around the CSU as during the lunchtime hours.
The Serendipity Music Series books performances about every three weeks throughout the fall and spring semesters. The two-hour performances are along main corridors of the CSU with outdoor performances on the mall as weather permits.
“This program lives up to the CSU’s House of Serendipity trademark for offering pleasant surprises that invite, involve and inspire,” Koupal said. “Having live, mid-day music in the CSU adds energy and atmosphere to the students’ ‘house.’”
Planned lineup of free fall performances include Tom Hunter and Frank Johns, Sept. 25; Space Monkey Mafia, Oct 3; Smokin’ Joe, Oct. 15; Druzy Rose, Oct. 30; Betty & Ocho, Nov. 6; Dunn & Barron, Nov. 20; Max Graham, Dec. 9.
