The RSO of the Month for November is… Anime Club!

We asked Anime Club President, Katelyn Karrow, along with other club executive officers, some questions. Their answers are below.

What is your RSO?

Our RSO is Anime Club, a community for people who like anime (Japanese Animation), western media in a similar aesthetic to anime, Webtoons, manga and other similar media.

What do you do, what makes you special, what do u have to offer?

We hold activities centered around giving people the opportunity to express their love of the medium and to share the enjoyment of it with each other. We also watch our favorite shows and movies, we pride ourselves on being a welcoming environment where everyone can stand out and make new friends.

Do you have to apply, how selective are you, do you target a specific audience?

You don’t have to apply. Anyone can come to Anime Club. Our target audience is students that enjoy anime culture, media, and art. Simply contact us through Engage, in person, or over our other social media. To be considered a member, you must attend a total of three meetings.

What is your ultimate goal?

Our ultimate goal is to be a community that welcomes fans of the medium new and old.

How many members do you have?

Currently, due to the RSO rules, we have a total of about 16 members. However, in a few short meetings, we will have over 40!

How many years have you been at the University?

This will be our first year at Minnesota State University, Mankato. We created this group at the start of the Fall 2019 semester. All of our officers are freshmen, and this is tough for first years, but it’s brought us all closer and has given us great life experience and lots of new friends.

What other Universities have your organization?

Lots of universities have anime clubs, it’s almost more unusual that there wasn’t an anime club before this year started.

What meme would your RSO relate to?

Emma Gabbert is a junior with a major in Mass Communication and a double minor in Political Science and Marketing. She started working for the CSU Communications team in September 2019 as the Public Relations Assistant and now works as a media consultant for the Centennial Student Union. She has been involved with media since high school where she was a member of her high school news and video production team. She is currently a College of Arts and Humanities Senator for Student Government at Minnesota State Mankato and also serves as the Media Manager for Student Government. Emma G. is involved in a large number of organizations such as; Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), Maverick Machine Pep Band, Women for Global Leadership Board, SAGE, Women of Action, College Democrats and iGNiTE MNSU: Women in Politics. In March 2020, Emma G. started working for Whisker Media, a pet public relations agency, as a Digital Content Specialist. She plans to continue this job after graduation. Her ideal future career is to be the Public Relations Director for a political campaign or a Public Relations Manager at a large corporation in the Twin Cities or Washington D.C.
