Maverick Spotlight: Ben Ojika

For the final week of Maverick Spotlight this semester, the inSIDER features Ben Ojika, a Senior on the Men’s Track & Field team. Ojika is a native of New Brighton, Minn., and a graduate of Irondale High School. In the 2017 outdoor season, Ojika  finished fifth in the 2017 NSIC Outdoor Track & FIeld Meet in the 110m hurdles (15:12), finished second and set a personal best time in the 110m hurdles (14.56).

  1. What three words best describe you? 
    • Random, learner, creative. 
  2. What tops your list of pet peeves?
    • Dropping or wasting perfectly good food. 
  3. If you could be any animal, what would it be and why?
    • An orangutan because they’re so chill and cozy looking.
  4. What’s the dumbest thing you’ve done that actually turned out pretty well?
    • Go to college
  5. Who is your all-time favorite sports star?
    • The answer is Allen Iverson
  6. What is your most prized possession? 
    • My bible
  7. What three items can always be found in your refrigerator?
    • Almond milk, cucumbers, and lemonade 
  8. If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time?
    • Make music and collaborate with others.
  9. What skill would you like to master? 
    • The piano at some point in life
  10. What movie title best describes your life? 
    • A Series of Unfortunate Events.
  11. What is the luckiest thing that has happened to you? 
    • Being born.
  12. What is something that a ton of people are obsessed with but you just don’t get the point of? 
    • Game of Thrones for sure.
  13. If all jobs had the same pay and hours, what job would you like to have? 
    • A social worker.
  14. Who inspires you to be better?
    • Everyone around me.
  15. What is something you will NEVER do again?
    • Skip class. I pay for that ish.
  16. What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives? 
    • Volunteering 
  17. If you could have a super power, what would it be?
    • The power to absorb and use others powers.
  18. If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do?  
    • Pay off my parents and siblings debts.
  19. If you could witness any event past, present or future, what would it be?
    • I’d do high school as a whole different experience. 
  20. What do you like most about Minnesota State University, Mankato?
    • The wonderful friends, faculty and staff, experience.
