A randomly selected list of 3,500 Minnesota State University, Mankato students will receive emails next week seeking their participation in the bi-annual survey by the Centennial Student Union.

This year’s student survey is set to launch on Sunday, Jan. 19. Survey participants qualify to win a set of Bose 700 headphones.

Students selected to participate in the survey will receive an email from CSU Director Mark Constantine with the email subject line: The Centennial Student Union 2020 Student Survey.

The email will include a link to the survey. Students completing the survey are automatically entered to win a pair of Bose 700 headphones given away at the conclusion of the survey.

The survey will seek student response through Friday, March 6.

Lenny Koupal, CSU Communications Coordinator organizing the survey, said the CSU is again working with Skyforce, a national firm specializing in opinion surveys evaluating student union services and programming.

The random survey list largely includes undergraduate and graduate students on the Mankato campus.

The survey helps us learn what students like and dislike about the CSU. It lets us know if student opinion has changed over the past two years. It also helps us identify new programs and services to pursue – and ones we should consider discontinuing. Finally, it allows us to compare ourselves to other student unions across the country.”

“The survey helps us learn what students like and dislike about the CSU. It lets us know if student opinion has changed over the past two years. It also helps us identify new programs and services to pursue – and ones we should consider discontinuing,” Koupal said. “Finally, it allows us to compare ourselves to other student unions across the country.”

Past student survey input has helped lead to everything from changes in dining options to the creation of the CSU BEST Board.

The general survey takes about 20 minutes to complete and concludes with 20 questions specifically written by the CSU.

“These questions are all about the Centennial Student Union. Here, students can specifically address various aspects of the CSU,” Koupal said.

Student responses to the CSU survey have been very strong compared to other campuses.

“Hitting the 20 percent response rate is considered a good mark. Our CSU survey responses have been as high as 27 percent,” Koupal said. “We are shooting for a 30 percent response this year.”

Several email reminders will be sent encouraging students to respond to the survey by the March 6 deadline.
