During winter break, in between the Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 semester, students and staff in the IT department at Minnesota State University, Mankato, rolled out a new update for the official University app, Mav Life on Jan. 9.

The new update automatically integrates coursework from individual student’s D2L homepage, directly on to the app under “My Courses.”

This allows students to view their class information (such as name, number and class start and end time), announcements and assignments on the Mav Life app.

In addition, students can reply to discussion posts, access their grades and will receive notifications when new content is uploaded.

Mav Life, the official university app, was launched a week before classes started for the Fall 2019 semester.

Some other functions of Mav Life that were introduced in 2019 include:

  • Campus maps
  • Live bus tracking
  • Access to events on engage
  • E-services
  • Information about Maverick Athletics, housing and campus recreation.
  • Community Feed with subsections titled, ‘student feed’, ‘lost & found’, ‘housing’, ‘news’ and ‘ride-sharing’.

The community feed is also used as a place for students to buy and sell textbooks or promote their Recognized Student Organization. (RSO)

To sign in to Mav Life, a StarID and password is required. The app is open to all students, faculty and staff with the correct login credentials.

Mav Life was created by the combined efforts of Minnesota State University, Mankato IT Solutions and Ready Education, an outside vendor used to create the software needed for cellphone applications.
