#4 Ranked Maverick Women’s Track & Field Claim NSIC Outdoor Title for First Time Since 2016

On its way to claiming the NSIC Conference Championship for the first time since 2016, the Maverick women’s track & field team members broke records, captured multiple events and earned NSIC honors.

The women racked up 191 total points in 21 events. The next closest team was Augustana University with 127 points.

Denisha Cartwright, ranked first in Division II 100m hurdles, set a meet record of 13.28 to claim the event. In her preliminary heat in the 200m, Cartwright broke the NSIC record shared since 1983 by three former Mavericks with her time of 23.70. The next day teammate Makayla Jackson would set a new NSIC mark and school record with a time of 23.56 to win the event. Cartwright took second with 23.80.

Jackson, ranked #3 in the Division II 100m dash, would go on to win the conference event at meet record time of 11.47. Cartwright and Ja’Cey Simmons would claim second and third respectively for the Maverick sweep. Jackson would capture her third individual event in the long jump with a winning leap of 19′ 11 1/2.”

Sophomore Fanfastic Four teammates Jackson, Cartwright, Simmons and Rose Cramer sprinted the winning time of 45.49 in the 4 x 100m relay. Jackson would finish the conference championship as High Point Performer with 32.5 points.

Other top Maverick finishers included junior Amanda Montplaisir, who won the 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 10:41.43.

In other NSIC news, Mavericks senior Kaylee Jensen was named the 2022 NSIC Outstanding Senior of the Year in women’s outdoor track & field. The award is selected by league coaches. Jensen has finished within the top-10 of the weight throw at the NSIC Indoor Championships four times and holds the third best heave in school history.
