List of speakers for the series

This free series will be through Facebook livestreams, Maverick Adventures at Minnesota State University, Mankato | Facebook. At the end of each presentation, there will be time for any questions viewers may have. Tune in on Wednesday, Feb. 24, at 7 p.m. with the first speaker and author of the book “Superior”, Kevin Langton, where he will be sharing his experiences from competing in the Superior 100 Trail .

The Superior 100 Mile Trail Race, founded in 1991, is a point-to-point ultramarathon consisting mostly of trails. The race travels through the Sawtooth Mountains on the Superior Hiking Trail in northern Minnesota near the Canadian border.

The race starts at the Gooseberry Falls State Park Visitors’ Center and finishes at Caribou Highlands Lodge in Lutsen, Minn.

Runners have access to 13 aid stations and never go more than 10 miles without an opportunity for aid. Langton is one of many individuals willing to take on the rugged challenge.

An icon to the Mankato community, Langston used his passion for running to help overcome drug addiction and alcohol abuse. Running became a sense of praying and meditation and also provided him with a cleaner circle of friends.

Langton continues to be a role model outside of his running activities where he helps others overcome drug addiction and alcoholism. His ability to open up about his past struggles made him a popular figure to people involved in the ultramarathoning subculture.
