This best-known quote by Harper Lee in her Pulitzer Prize-winning classic defines the goal for the Maverick Diversity Institute’s ongoing workshop series.

This semester, “Diversity Passports” will be awarded to individuals successfully completing the Institute’s workshops and programs offered to better understand inclusion and fairness in our classrooms and work environment.

Registration to attend can be completed HERE.

Short reflections written after each session will earn a stamp on participant’s Diversity Passport. Those filling their passport will earn a certificate of completion that can go toward professional development plan or report.

“I would encourage students to come to these with an open mind and an open heart,” said Liz Steinborn-Gourley, director of the Women’s Center and coordinator of the Spring 2021 diversity program. “There are opportunities to learn about things that are not within your own lived experiences that will allow you to understand and better support people around you who may identify differently than you do.”

The first upcoming session later this month will be a Trans Ally Training presented by Skye Vang, a Policy and Organizing Coordinator from OutFront Minnesota. This training program will be split into two different sessions, one for students and one for faculty/staff.

The student Zoom session will be Tuesday, Feb. 23, from Noon to 1:30 p.m. at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89007481301.

The faculty/staff Zoom session will be held on Zoom Thursday, Feb. 25, from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89241438013.

The Diversity and Inclusion Institution strives to create a welcoming and inclusive campus at Minnesota State Mankato to work, learn, and grow.
