TODAY WITH JENAE: A Closing of Another Chapter

by JENAE CAREY, CSU Public Relations Intern

Hello friends! My name is Jenae and I am a Public Relations Intern at the Communications Office in the CSU. I’m a senior graduating in May, studying Mass Media with an emphasis on Public relations and communications.

I wanted to start a blog that addresses things that you, as a student, can relate to. Being in my fourth year of college, I feel I have some helpful insight to offer. This will be a weekly blog post, so sit back, sip on some coffee, and let’s chat!

It’s that time in the semester when as students, we’re ready to throw in the towel. We are almost finished with another semester and for some, our last semester ever! This is such an exciting time, but it’s also a time to push through and finish strong.

With graduation coming up, it can bring up a lot of different emotions for students this semester. With COVID-19 still lurking and getting in the way of commencement, we find ourselves frustrated.

Personally, I felt frustrated at first. I had family coming who had booked hotel rooms and I was excited to feel celebrated. I had achieved something great and this is a big milestone in my life.

Now, I feel just as grateful. Sure, I won’t get to celebrate in person with my friends and family, but, I still did it…. and with obstacles!

Doing homework and learning from a laptop isn’t something everyone can do. I know it’s hard. I know it’s frustrating. I know sometimes you want to throw your computer across the room. I know you have wanted to quit at least 5 times.

But…..

If you’ve made it this far, you have something to be extremely proud of. For us graduates out there, we are almost done! Even though it’s not under ideal circumstances, we are lucky enough to have staff and professors who are working their hardest to help us reach out academic goals, and that’s something to be grateful for.

I’m here to remind you to not be so hard on yourselves. You’ve almost made it through another semester of college, most of which being online.

With one door closing, another one opens. I wish every student the best of luck in whatever the future holds. Hang in there, and crush your finals!
