January is a month of new beginnings and endings. Just like the United States as a nation, Maverick nation’s Greek life had their newest leaders accept their roles.

As we continue with the spring semester and the start of a new year, the Maverick Fraternity and Sorority Life at Minnesota State University have gone through changes in their leadership positions. We welcome and congratulate the new Interfraternity Council members (IFC), new Panhellenic Council members (PHC) and new Chapter Presidents of this spring and following fall semester.

For those unfamiliar with these titles, members of the IFC and PHC are executive officers who oversee Greek life operations. Their tasks include helping chapters through program training, enforcing rules, and holding conferences with chapters. IFC officers are in charge of Fraternities and PHC officers are in charge of Sororities.

Chapter Presidents supervise their chapter and are in charge of conducting all chapter operations, organization of meetings, and ensuring executive officers of the chapter are properly performing to their expectations.

To become an officer for the IFC or PHC, Greek life members simply have to submit an application of the position of interest. An election night is hosted, and applicants deliver a speech to the current IFC and PHC members on why they deserve the position and how they will perform. After these speeches, the council members vote, and a new council member is determined for the next term.

Chapter President elections are similar to the IFC and PHC elections. A list of candidates is formed from members who believe they have the skills to operate the chapter. This role will be filled in the first election meeting. The candidates deliver their speeches to members of the chapter and voted in after the last candidate has spoken.

If you are interested in joining Greek life, feel free to reach out to the Chapter Presidents for more information.
