Mavericks senior right-handed pitcher Nick Altermatt was picked by the Chicago White Sox in the recent Major League Baseball 2022 draft.
Altermatt was picked 521st overall in the 17th round. The 6-foot, 225-pound Altermatt earned All-NSIC First Team honors as a pitcher and outfielder as well as being named to the All-NSIC Defensive Team. Altermatt also played shortstop. At the plate, he led the Mavericks with a .378 batting average, .700 slugging percentage, 68 hits, 21 doubles, 11 home runs, 64 RBI and 126 total bases this year.
Calling Altermatt “just your standard-issue, two-way ace/masher from up there in Minnesota,” SBNation, an online site for the White Sox fan base, speculated that the ChiSox may experiment with Altermatt as a two-way player at pitcher and shortstop.
