This October, MSU’s student volunteer leadership team, Mavs in Action, is hosting a Socktober drive to collect socks and underwear for emergency shelters and at-risk communities.
Did you know?
Socks and undergarments are among the least donated but most needed items in shelters. Everyone, from men and women to children, has this need, and the impact of fresh, clean undergarments can be significant. In times of housing crises, adults often sacrifice these basic necessities to prioritize food and shelter for their families, while children’s needs frequently go unmet.
Think About This
- Nobody we know likes the thought of purchasing used undergarments from a thrift store.
- When dealing with housing crisis, sometimes the small things like a fresh pair of socks can bring comfort.
- Childrens basic needs often go unmet during a crisis.
- Adults sacrifice basic needs in order to feed and house themselves and their families.
Let’s change that!
How Can You Help?
Mavs in Action has set up 10 boxes for student organizations and campus departments to “adopt.” Help us collect socks, hosiery, and undergarments in all sizes and styles! You can also participate by bringing donations directly to the Community Engagement Office in Student Activities (CSU 173).
Sign up to “adopt” a box today by following the link in the attached flyer!
Last year, we collected over 300 pairs of socks. This year, we’re aiming for 400!
Will you help us reach our goal?
Donation Guidelines:
All donated items must be new, packaged, or tagged.
Donations will benefit the following local shelters:
– CADA (Committee Against Domestic Abuse): Women’s and children’s items urgently needed.
– Connections Shelter: All genders and sizes, with a focus on adults.
– Partners for Housing: Women’s and children’s items urgently needed.
The department or organization that collects the most will join Mavs in Action to deliver these donations to the shelters in person!
