Emily Ford, featured in Outside magazine after become the first woman to complete the 1,200-mile Ice Age hiking trail IN WINTER, will be featured at two campus events on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 30-Oct. 1. The documentary, Breaking Trail, following Emily’s journey across Wisconsin’s Ice Age trail, will be shown Friday at 7 p.m. in Ostrander Auditorium. Emily will be there for a Q&A session. “Maverick Minute,” is a new short video series hosted by Minnesota State Mankato President Edward Inch that introduces students to services and resources at their university home. The videos will be released twice a month and posted to the president’s Twitter and Instagram sites at MavPrezEd.
President Edward Inch announced his launching of his Mav Coin Presidential Challenge. He and campus leaders will be watching for individuals modeling and advancing Inclusion, Cooperation, Innovation and Maverick Spirit. FRIDAY, SEPT. 30! That is the final day for the Fall 2022 Recognition Period for University student organizations. To maintain Recognized Student Organization status, an annual recognition renewal process must be completed and submitted for approval. Failure to complete the recognition process results in loss of Student Activity Fee funding for travel or on-campus programming, as well as the inability to reserve any meeting space on campus. RSOs missing the Sept. 30 deadline are considered “inactive” and must wait until the Spring Semester to complete the recognition process.

A traveling exhibit titled “RESOLUTE: MN Stories of 9/11 & the War,” will be on display in Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Centennial Student Union Ballroom from Sept. 7-11. The exhibit focuses solely on Minnesotans and their roles on 9/11 and during the global war on terror. Minnesota State University, Mankato President Edward Inch announced that a new exhibit and dialog space has been created in the University’s Memorial Library to display a 7-foot-tall statue of Abraham Lincoln that was a 1926 gift to the institution from alumni. “I hope this space will stimulate deeper discussions and research that help us better understand the history of the Dakota people, the complexities of Lincoln’s time and how historical events shape contemporary issues and thoughts,” President Inch said
Food insecurity is a real problem among college students. Even at Minnesota State Mankato, the college dollar doesn’t always stretch far enough to keep the stomach from growling. Fortunately, the Maverick Food Pantry, Swipe Out Hunger and other campus programs are in place to assist hungry Mavericks.
Jason Kaufman, Ph.D., Ed. D., professor of Educational Leadership at Minnesota State Mankato, uses Star Trek storylines to show leadership qualities of communication, patience and relationship. He and colleague Aaron Peterson, Ed.D., have published two articles on the classroom approach with a book on the Star Trek perspective coming out in 2023.
The Centennial Student Union continues its CSU Mall Fest tradition with its Fall 2022 edition on Wednesday, Aug. 31, again offering free hot dogs, a petting zoo and live music by the Fat City All Stars. The CSU Mall Fest on the campus mall will join the annual Campus and Community Involvement Fair that runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and introduces students to Recognized Student Organizations, the Student Events Team and community groups inviting student to get involved.
