Minnesota State Mankato, the state’s second largest university, ranked fourth most affordable in a new online report by CollegeVine. The report cited the University for its nationally-accredited aviation program, its commitment to diversity and its top ranking as an inclusive environment for LGBQT students.
Minnesota State Mankato and Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe College of Hayward, Wis., are collaborating in the Maverick Advance Plan. The program allows LCOOC associate nursing degree graduates seamless transfer in the online RN Baccalaureate Completion Program at Minnesota State Mankato.
Brian Bahl received a five-year extension to remain at the helm of the Maverick women’s soccer program. Head coach since 2013, Bahl is the program’s winningest coach with an overall record of 147-21-14.

Draft Diamonds listed three Minnesota State Mavericks as promising 2023 NFL projects. Wide receiver Jalen Sample, and defensive backs Alijah McGhee and Somon Anderson were tagged as potential NFL players. The Mavericks home opener is Saturday, Sept. 10, at 6 p.m. against Minnesota/Duluth.
Adding to his 2022 Hobey Baker Award as the nation’s top college men’s hockey player, Maverick goalie Dryden McKay concluded is college career as USA Hockey’s 2022 Jim Johannsen College Player of the Year. McKay has signed a two-year contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Makayla Jackson won the national 100m dash title and Denisha Cartwright captured the 100m hurdles championship at the 2022 NCAA Division II National Outdoor Finals. It was the first time Mavericks have taken the national title in either event. Jackson and Cartwright joined Ja’Cey Simmons and Rose Cramer to win the national 4×100 relay by 0.02 seconds. The Mavericks took home the third-place national trophy.
M.A.G.I.C. is a new Recognized Student Organization whose community of creative thinkers are planning a Minecraft campus tour, holograms in the classroom and a Fall 2022 robotics competition among early goals.
Ranked #4 in national NCAA Division II, the Maverick Women’s Track and Field team won the outdoor NSIC championship. Sophomore Makayla Jackson was the high point performer winning the 100m, 200m (NSIC record) and long jump.She also anchoring the winning 4 x 100 relay that included fellow sophomores Denisha Cartwright, Ja’Cey Simmons and Rose Cramer. Cartwright, ranked #1 in the nation in the 100m hurdles set a meet record.
(KARE 11 Local News) Anna Hansen, a Ukrainian immigrant who recently earned her Master’s in Accounting from Minnesota State Mankato, celebrated Mother’s Day with her mother, Valentyna Zinchenko, thanks to an expedited visa aided by Sen. Amy Klobuchar. Zinchenko was living in Kharkiv, a northeastern Ukrainian city targeted by Russian forces.

Memorial celebration for former Minnesota State Mankato President Margaret R. Preska will be Saturday, June 11 at 2 p.m. in the University’s Ted Paul Theatre in the Early Center for Performing Arts. Preska served as the University’s 10th president from 1979-1992. She passed away Nov. 17. She was 83.

Maverick sophomore sprinter Denisha Cartwright heads into the NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championships ranked among the nation’s fastest NCAA Division II sprinters. The Nassau, Bahamas, native earned her fourth NSIC Track Athletic of the Week this outdoor season following the Deb Schulz Open at Minnesota State Mankato. She is also a member of the Mavericks 400-meter relay team which holds this spring’s top time in Division II.
