VOTE! Casting Ballots by Mail and Early Voting Among 2020 Options

This is the first in an ongoing series leading up to the Nov. 3 general election that addresses the how, when, why and more to help prepare voters.

With less than two months until the Nov. 3 national election, students seeking to vote have options available for voting by mail and early voting in person. Here are some valuable pointers offered through the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State.

Voting by Mail – You can apply online for your ballot to be mailed to you. All you’ll need is a state ID and no more than ten minutes of your time. In this election, you will be able to use this option even if you’ve never voted before or are not registered to vote in a particular precinct. You will need to follow the instructions very carefully and return your ballot as soon as possible to avoid the rush. You can track that your ballot has been received online.

Early Voting in Person – From Sept. 18th to Nov. 2nd (5:00 PM) you can vote in person. There are many voting locations in each county, but the easiest way to find out your locations is to call your local city hall. Most likely they will have a polling station in the building. The Secretary of State’s office has devoted lots of resources to ensuring these polling location are using best practices for social distancing safety (I felt very safe doing in-person voting for the primaries and got to keep the pen I used to vote with to boot).
