85 Student Volunteers Sought for Sept. 17 ‘Mavericks Lead the Vote’ Registration Day

A team of 85 student volunteers is being recruited to encourage the Mankato community to vote as the country heads for the Nov. 5 general election.

According to Liz Steinborn-Gourley, director of the Women’s Center and a member of the “Mavericks Lead the Vote” voter registration drive, student volunteers can sign up on Mav Central to join a Mankato and campus canvass of potential voters on Tuesday, Sept. 17. Along with being Constitution Day, this year’s date is recognized as National Voter Registration Day.

Volunteers will distribute voter registration information in targeted Mankato precincts where voter turnout has traditionally been 50 percent or less, Steinborn-Gourley said. Neighborhood activities will largely involve hanging door tags

The day’s activity will include tabling in U Square and at the Coffee Hag as well as on the CSU MavAve to help raise awareness for voter registration and the upcoming election.
