Who’s up for an outdoor concert or a movie on the football field or dancing to headphone music? Then, the Student Events Team has something in store for you!

With the beginning of the 2024-25 school year, comes numerous events that the Student Events Team organizes and hosts. Any and all Minnesota State Mankato students are invited and encouraged to participate in these fun-filled activities.

Student Events Team staff advisor, Bill Tourville is constantly impressed with the events that his team comes up with year after year.

“We pride ourselves in engaging the campus in a meaningful way and providing students something that makes them feel at home, and I feel that our team does a wonderful job accomplishing that,” says Tourville.

Among the first events is one of the best nights of the year with the 2024 MavFest happening on Tuesday, Sept. 3! From 6 to 10 p.m. on the Preska Lawn, students can enjoy music by the region’s best cover band, foreplay IV Play band.

Fast forward to Saturday, Sept. 7, when the Student Events Team partners with MSU Athletics to host a free outdoor viewing of Inside Out 2 on the Blakeslee Stadium field following the first home football game. The movie will begin at 9 p.m.

Lastly, on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 8 to 11 p.m. there is the Silent Disco and MSU Carnival on the Preska Lawn. Students can jam out to music through provided headphones with three stations: top 40 hits, international tunes, and throwbacks. Students can also look forward to carnival games with exciting prizes and free food.

It’s no doubt that these events make MSU’s new students feel that they are a part of the MavFam.

“We as a team know through research that if a student feels like they belong here, if they meet someone new, or they feel proud of the institution, they’re more likely to stay here and graduate,” Tourville says, “When students are able to go to these transformative experiences that are unique to Mankato and its university, it makes them feel at home and that they belong here.”
