46th Annual Dr. Michael T. Fagin Pan African Conference – “Closing the Education Equity Gap!”

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at Minnesota State University, Mankato asks that you join us in working towards “Closing the Education Equity Gap: Moving Beyond Conversation Toward Identifying Best Practices!” at the 46th Annual Dr. Michael T. Fagin Pan African Conference from Wednesday, February 23 through Friday, February 25, 2022! 

(Earn Continuing Education/Clock Hours credits for attending!) 

The 2022 conference theme calls for K-12 and postsecondary educators to:
move beyond discussing the equity gap in Education;
focus on how school cultures and curricula marginalize students of color;
 identify best practices that allow us to serve our students of color best; and,
reflect on innovative ways to move the needle forward and reimagine Education. 

There is a phenomenal lineup of concurrent workshops and speakers scheduled at this year’s conference, including the following conference speakers:

Vice-Chancellor Dees provides oversight responsibilities for the Minnesota State system-wide strategy to support diversity, equity, and inclusion. She practiced employment law for ten years then transitioned into higher education as the Associate Dean for Multicultural Affairs at William Mitchell College of Law. Dees is a transformational leader in higher education with her scholarly commitment to social justice and advancing excellence through diversity.

Dr. Wood’s research focuses on factors affecting the success of boys and men of color education, with a specific focus on early childhood education and community colleges. In particular, his research examines contributors (e.g., social, psychological, academic, environmental, institutional) to positive outcomes.

Dr. Brown McNair oversees funded projects and AAC&U’s continuing programs on equity, inclusive excellence, high-impact practices, and student success. She is also the lead author of From Equity Talk to Equity Walk: Expanding Practitioner Knowledge for Racial Justice in Higher Education (January 2020). In March 2020, Diverse: Issues in Higher Education named Dr. Brown McNair one of thirty-five outstanding women who have tackled some of higher education’s toughest challenges.

Note: Faculty, staff, and administrators are encouraged to register and have college students (undergraduate and graduate) attend with them for the learning experiences. Students can also earn college credit for attending the conference and enrolling in the asynchronous HIST 490-01 offered through Minnesota State University, Mankato.
