Fraternity and Sorority Graduation Observes Special Recognition to Ryan McCormick

The fraternity and sorority community’s 15 graduating members were recognized and received alumni pins and honor cords during a November 30 ceremony. The evening also recognized and honored Ryan McCormick of Sigma Nu, who passed away in May.

“Our organizations commit to being a continued support system for you, and the University and our Fraternity and Sorority Community hope that you will remain engaged and connected,” said Fraternity and Sorority Advisor John Bulcock.

Ryan McCormick was a leader in the community, holding positions as an officer on both the Interfraternity Council (IFC) Executive Board and in his chapter. He was very close to graduating himself when he died, and he is being recognized posthumously by both the University and the Fraternity & Sorority Life Community.  His parents, Kelly and Paul, were on hand and stood in his place on stage, receiving Ryan’s pin and the honor cords as a past IFC Officer and as a member of two honor societies.

During the evening, Brad Philips, a graduating member of Sigma Chi, offered his a reflection on the meaning of his Maverick fraternity experience, and Sigma Nu alumnus Chris Collins, a former chapter president, IFC president, and student body president, shared his post-graduation experience and welcomed the newest graduates to the “alumni” ranks.

“Your graduation from Minnesota State Mankato does not signify the end of your sorority or fraternity membership. Instead, it marks the beginning of a different phase of your membership,” Collins said.

The fraternity and sorority community also recognized the new 2022 Panhellenic Council and Interfraternity Council officers, who will be formally installed on December 5.
