Maverick Women’s Basketball Win First-Ever NSIC Title; Joey Batt is Tournament MVP

Mavericks women’s basketball team captures its first conference tournament title.

MARCH 5, 2024 – The #20 Maverick women’s basketball squad claimed the program’s first-ever conference championship in an 89-74 win over the University of Mary.

Senior guard Joey Batt was named the NSIC Tournament MVP. The New Ulm, Minn., native averaged 19.7 points, two rebounds, 5.7 assists and two steals per game in the NSIC Tournament.

The win moves the Mavericks into the NCAA Regional Tournament which begins Friday, March 15. The NCAA Selection Show will be streamed live on the NCAA website on Sunday, March 10, at 9:30 p.m.

Earlier that afternoon, the #2-ranked Mavericks men captured the NSIC championship in a 97-77 win over #9 University of Minnesota Duluth. Senior guard Malik Willingham of Waseca, Minn., was selected the tourney MVP.

The Mavericks became the fourth program to win both men and women NSIC tournament championships in the same season. The last team to do it was Wayne State College in 2011.
