Minnesota State Mankato Tops List as Best ‘Hidden Gem’ University in Midwest

Active student life at Minnesota State University, Mankato helped the University claim the College Gazette’s top ranking for “Hidden Gems” among colleges and universities in the Midwest.

Minnesota State University, Mankato tops the 2021 list of Best “Hidden Gem” Colleges in the Midwest according to recent ranking posted by the College Gazette.

The ranking recognizes Minnesota State Mankato’s solid academic program that includes the only nationally-accredited aviation program in the country that maintains partnership with Delta and Sun Country Airlines that offers post-graduation job opportunities.

The College Gazette rating also spotlights the University’s active campus life.

“The university also has a rich student life,” the news report stated. “There are more than 200 academic student groups, intramural sports, leadership and religious organizations, honorary and professional societies, and other special interest groups. Students can also join Greek life or student government.”

Minnesota State Mankato was further recognized as having the second-oldest LGBT resource center in the country, founded in 1977.

In other related rankings, Minnesota State Mankato placed 12th nationally in international student population with 1,554 international students in 2019-20 according to a 2020 “Open Doors Report” released by the Institute of International Education.
