Sexual Health and Safety Carnival

Time to talk about the birds and the bees at this year’s annual Safe Sex Carnival on Feb. 8 at Preska Hall. Student Health Services Graduate Assistant, Brennah McCorkell, encourages students to openly discuss safe sex at the event and have fun.

McCorkell said, “A lot of times sexuality is still kind of stigmatized, so go to an event where healthy sexuality is encouraged. We provide lots of prizes- condoms, lube samples- just to keep students safe.”

The carnival is a community event, with campus organizations like RHA, the Women’s Center, the LGBT Center, and more, all organizing their own booths with prizes.

McCorkell said, “We have lots of different prizes from condoms, lube, beverages, like we have Sunny D and Kool-Aid. All sorts of different things.”

Booths include information about consent, health and wellness, female anatomy, filling a condom, and more- with ranging activities from the sex olympics to Tinder to the love language luau.

McCorkell said, “We have printed quizzes for the five love languages. Students will take those and get information about their top love language. Then, we have leis, so they’re gonna get “leid,” essentially. That’s the pun with that one… We have some booths that have to do with abstinence, as well. So, we have a date night booth and a love language booth. It’s about healthy sexuality on a spectrum.”

There’s always time to talk about safe sex and abstinence, especially with the holidays coming up.

McCorkell said, “Close to the beginning of February, we wanted to have it before Valentines Day, so we’re preparing students. Because Valentine’s Day is a holiday all about love and that includes sexuality for some people, so we’re preparing them and keeping them safe for that holiday.”

Attend the carnival on Feb. 8 in Preska 126 from 7:00-9:30pm.
