Sexual Assault Awareness Month

The Women’s Center and the Violence Awareness and Response Program offer two events on April 25 as part of Sexual Violence Awareness Month.

DENIM DAY: TUESDAY, APRIL 25, Noon to 12:15 p.m. – Wear denim and gather at the Fountain for a photo.

Denim day was created as a campaign to shatter the silence against sexual assault. In 1990, an 18 year old woman was raped by her instructor. The court dismissed her rape charges, saying her jeans were “too tight,” so the only way that intercourse could have happened was if she willingly helped take them off. This case created an uproar and raised questions about behavior and responses to sexual assault.

TAKE BACK THE NIGHT: TUESDAY, APRIL 25, 5 to 7 p.m. – Ostrander Auditorium.

Take Back the Night happens nationwide on college campuses.as students gather, speak out against sexual violence and show support for victims and survivors of sexual assault. The night will end with a march.
