Uplifting All Women through Events Celebrating Women’s History Month 2022

The Women’s Center kicks off Women’s History Month right after Spring Break!

This year, the themes of all events will be “Lift Every Voice.” Shadow Rolan, the director of the Violence Awareness and Response Program, gave the Women’s Center the theme-based from a lyric from a Black National Anthem, “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” that celebrates liberation and empowerment with call-to-act justice.

Throughout the entire month, participate in the Lift Every Voice Photo Campaign and collect a prize. All Mavericks are encourage to come to the Women’s Center in CSU 218, share how they’ll lift their voice, take a picture, and have it all displayed at the Lift Every Voice: Women Make History event at the end of the month, according to Liz Steinborn-Gourley, director of the Women’s Center.

Here’s everything you need to know about these uplifting events:

March 15: All About Love Book Discussion with Zara Houston

Come to the first event from the Women’s Center with a virtual book discussion hosted by Zara Houston on Zoom from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, on Mar. 15. All participants may pic up a free copy of the boo, All About Love, and a reading guide from the Women’s Center in CSU 218 while supplies last, according to Steinborn-Gourley. March 21-22: Women Make History Paint-By-Numbers

Partnered with the Student Events Team, the Paint-by-Number event will happen in the CSU Hearth Lounge from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, March 21, through Tuesday, March 22. With a wide range of portraits to paint, students can choose from eleven different, incredible women, from First Lady Michelle Obama to Frida Kahlo to Malala Yousafzai. Students can showcase their work at the Lift Every Voice event on Thursday, Mar. 31, or they can take the portraits home, according to Steinborn-Gourley.

March 21: Hayden Kristal & the Importance of Intersectional Activism

The LGBT Center and the Women’s Center will both host a keynote speaker event with Hayden Kristal in CSU 253/4/5/ or on Zoom from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, March 21. Kristal will speak on living life at the intersection of multiple marginalized identities, as well as acknowledging the complex nature of human identity and it’s importance in any kind of social work justice.

March 22: Women’s History Trivia Night

Want a chance to win a prize? Test your Women’s History knowledge at trivia night through Zoom from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22.

March 31: Lift Every Voice: Women Make History

Last, the month wraps up with a large Lift Every Voice event in the CSU Ballroom from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, March 31. The event will be led by The Collective, a student advisory board to the Women’s Center. Come celebrate the contributions of women-led organization across campus as they are featured in a fair-style exhibit, according to Steinborn-Gourley. But there’s still more: a brief program will feature women around the world who lift their voices for social justice. Additionally, a video will showcase all the photos that Mavericks took in the Women’s Center throughout the month.
