Additional Advice for International Students, Financial Aid Consideration and Total Credits Attempted
It is nearly midterm. This is a good time to reflect on your academic performance and make plans for the remainder of the semester.
- Are you worried that you may not succeed in one of your courses?
- Are you thinking about dropping a course but worried that doing so will drop your credits below a full-time (12 credit) load?
- Have you realized you can take on a little extra challenge to make progress toward your degree?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, keep reading!
Several 8-week courses begin soon. Adding one of these courses could help you maintain a full credit load, boost your GPA, and keep you on track toward graduation.

When you meet with your advisor or College Advising Office, don‘t forget to check on the following issues:
- Students attempting more than 18 undergraduate credits in a semester must complete the Credit Overload Request Form.
- Tuition is based on the total number of attempted credits, so even if you withdraw from a course, you may incur additional charges if your total attempted credits are more than 18 credits.
- There may be other financial aid implications based on your unique situation, so please contact the Campus Hub to know the impact this might have on you.
International Students:
F-1 and J-1 are required to maintain full-time enrollment for the whole semester. Before you decide to withdraw from a course and register for one of these 8-week courses, check with your immigration advisor at the Kearney Center to ensure you are maintaining your immigration status.
I hope this is helpful to you. Our goal is your success!
