Chapters ‘Rock and Roll’ Through Greek Week with Contests and Awards April 8-14

From Fraternity and Sorority Life News Release

The annual Cardboard Boat Regatta during Greek Week challenges chapters to trust their cardboard and duct tape vessels as they navigate across the Highland Center Pool. For many unfortunate souls, their trust is misplaced.

“Rock and Roll” is the theme April 8-12 as Fraternity and Sorority Life at Minnesota State University invites the campus to join in celebrating Greek Week. Activities include a Monday FREE hot dog cookout for the campus community as well as cardboard boat races, and the popular lip sync contest among the FSL chapters.

The week concludes with the annual awards banquet recognizing the Chapter of the Year and other outstanding accomplishments among the FSL community.

Throughout Greek Week, chapters compete toward points in an overall competition. Events and contests include:

Monday’s kick-off cookout planned on the campus mall invites the campus to FREE hot dogs, chips and a drink starting at 11 a.m.

Tuesday features an FSL canned food drive benefitting the local food shelf. Public donations can be dropped off at the lobbying table on the Centennial Student Union MavAve.

Wednesday is the much-anticipated Cardboard Boat Regatta at the Highland Center Pool. Two-member teams from each chapter attempt to row a cardboard and duct tape boat across the 25-meter pool.

Thursday is the traditional Lip Sync Battle and Greeks Got Talent on Thursday from 6 to 10 p.m. in Ostrander Auditorium. Later, the FSL community will host the Lip Sync After Party at Applebees, with a percentage of all sales benefitting Mavathon, the largest student-run philanthropy event on campus.

The week’s competition concludes Friday with Minute to Win It games and the judging of chapter banners displayed in the CSU Hearth Lounge that promote the week’s Rock and Roll theme.

Greek Week festivities conclude on Sunday, April 14, with the annual Fraternity & Sorority Life Awards Banquet in the CSU Ballroom. Along with Chapter of the Year, the ceremony awards “New Member of the Year,” and other chapter and individual accomplishments.
