Establishing Gay Rights is the Focus of Season Stage Opener of The Temperamentals

Minnesota State Student Admission is $5

The story of two men in Los Angeles in the 1950s who fall in love and establish the first gay rights organization in the U.S. is the focus of The Temperamentals as Minnesota State Mankato’s Department of Theatre & Dance opens its 2023-2024 Theatre Season.

In the early 1950s, “Temperamental” was code for “homosexual,” part of a created language of secret
words that gay men used to communicate.

The Temperamentals runs Sept. 20-23 at 7:30 p.m. in the Andreas Theatre at the Earley Center for Performing Arts. Tickets are $5 for Minnesota State students; $10 regular admission; and $9 for seniors ages 65 and older and children under 16. The box office is open 4-6 p.m. weekdays in the lobby of the Performing Arts Center. Tickets are available online at MSUTheatre.com or over the phone at 507-389-6661.

Director Eric E. Parrish, a third-year MFA candidate, said the studio production urges individuals to champion marginalized individuals and groups and strive for allyship.

The first main stage production is Rent running Sept. 28-Oct. 8 in the Ted Paul Theatre.
