Mavathon: A Chance to Give Back, Help Kids, and Be Part of a Campus Tradition on Feb. 26

What is Mavathon?

Dance Marathon is a student-led organization that raises funds and awareness throughout the year for sick and injured kids treated through the Children’s Miracle Network.

Mavathon has been a long-standing tradition on our campus since the 1980s and ’90s and faded away in the 2000s but started back up in 2011.

Students and organizations join our campus-wide movement by registering and creating fundraising pages, participating in events on campus, and asking friends and family members for donations. Our year culminates at our annual Dance Marathon event, where we connect with and honor patient families, play games, enjoy entertainment, fundraise, and reveal our annual fundraising total – all in support of kids at our local children’s hospital.

What is Children’s Miracle Network and why should you care?

Children’s Miracle Network Hospital helps provide care to millions of patients annually for every injury, illness, and disease imaginable. Since its founding in 1983, CMN has raised more than $5 billion to support research and uncompensated healthcare provided to kids in need.

The Miracle Balloon has become the symbol of hope and healing for children across North America. With more than 170 top and nonprofit member hospitals, CMN touches the lives of more kids and their families than any other children’s charity.

Contributions to Gillette provide help to families who may not be able to afford the healthcare their children need. Funds also support research and services, or medical equipment not covered by insurance providers. The funds that we raise help to provide support for Minnesotans who may need Gillette’s help.
