Mavericks Sweep NSIC Men’s Track & Field Athlete of the Week Awards

Minnesota State’s Abel Christiansen, South Milwaukee, Wisc., took home NSIC Track Athlete of the Week honors and Onyekachi Ukaobasi, Geneva, Ill., won NSIC Field Athlete of the Week in a clean sweep of weekly awards announced Monday, Feb. 12.

Christiansen (Sr. – hurdles) ran a personal record in the 60-meter hurdles at the Maverick Premier #1 at Myers Field House. His time of 7.92 is the fastest in MSU history and ranks tied for 12th in Division II this season. Christiansen also placed second in the 60-meter hurdles on day two at the Maverick Premier #2 at 8.04. He was also named NSIC Track Athlete of the Week on Jan. 16.

Ukaobasi (Sr. – jumps) moved up to No. 3 in MSU history in triple jump at the Maverick Premier #1 Friday. Ukaobasi leapt 15.54m (51′ 0″), good for the fifth best triple jump in Division II this season.

This was the second time this year that the Mavericks have claimed both NSIC Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors. For the week of Jan. 16, Christiansen earned Track Athlete of the Week and was joined by fellow Maverick James Gilbert, Orlando, Fla. (Sr. – jumps) as Field Athlete of the Week.

Minnesota State indoor track and field hosts the Maverick Invitational on Friday, February 16 at Myers Field House.
