What is SAAM About?

The Fraternity and Sorority Life is seeking student attendance as it plans a series of activities during Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April.

Morgan Rusler and Collin Jutting, the respective Panhellenic Council(PHC) and Interfraternity Council(IFC) Risk Management Coordinators, have been working with the Women’s Center, FSL members, and students in planning for a Tuesday, April 19, SAAM event starting at 6:35 p.m. in the CSU Ballroom.

What is it

What’s SAAM about? Is an interactive informative program about sexual assault. This program is mainly highlighting ways to stay safe, what resources are available, and how to be supportive of survivors and SAAM (sexual assault awareness month).

How it works

We will have an introduction of what SAAM (sexual assault awareness month) is followed by a few activities. First, attendees will get to participate in an interactive activity allowing them to walk through real survivors’ stories of SA, with the ‘In Her Shoes’ activity. Following In Her Shoes, attendees will have the chance to grab some snacks. We will play a Kahoot that will help students know about different resources on and off-campus, prevention efforts, ways to support survivors, and much more. To end out the “What’s SAAM about?” Program there will be an opportunity for people to ask any questions they might have. This is not something where people will be sitting down and getting a lecture. It is interactive people will be moving around and engaging in the different activities. Not to mention free food!

What we want from students

We want students to attend and take it seriously but have fun and learn from this interactive program. This is a heavy topic, but a very important one that is meant to be educational and help keep all students safe both on and off-campus.

Why we are planning this event

This is mainly to educate and bring further awareness to sexual assault. Additionally, this program is meant to help people know what resources are available to them. What’s SAAM about? Is also here to show that the FSL community is pushing for further awareness and advocacy on this campus to help keep all MSU students safe.
