Fraternity and Sorority Life Formal Recruitment has just finished on campus. For those of you who might not know what this means or did not see #BamaRushTok here is a quick explanation.

Formal Recruitment is the main way students join a fraternity or sorority. It is a four-day process that is similar but different for the fraternities and sororities.

For the sorority side: You see all four chapters on Day 1, you see up to three chapters on Day 2, you see up to two chapters on Day 3, and finally, on Day 4 you accept a bid and run home to your chosen chapter.

For the fraternity side: You see three of the six fraternities on Day 1, on Day 2 you see the other three fraternities. On Day 3, you will see your top two preferences, and finally, on Day 4 you will accept a bid and run home to your chosen chapter.

Each Chapter will choose to extend an invitation (Bid) to their chapter to Potential New Members on Bid Day. But this does not mean the process is over.

After Bid Day, chapters will informally recruit; meaning, they will only host events for potential new members to attend. If you missed formal recruitment, there is still time for you to join a fraternity or sorority on our campus.

When I asked students why they went through recruitment here is what they said:
“I never had a solid group of friends in high school, I wanted to join a sorority so I could find my forever friends” – A freshman who attended formal recruitment

“I heard about how awesome the guys are in the chapters on campus and I wanted to be a part of something like that” – A sophomore who attended formal recruitment

“I saw how involved greek life was on campus and wanted to join something that was bigger than myself.” – An active member of Gamma Phi Beta

“I heard about the benefits of joining a fraternity and thought I would try it out, it has been the best 2 years of my college experience” – An active member of Sigma Chi

I had the opportunity to be Pi Rho Chi during this past formal recruitment season. As a Pi Rho Chi, I was able to recruit for all four sororities. It helped me see more of this amazing community from an outside perspective. I was able to help girls find the sorority that would become their forever home. It was a very rewarding process for myself and the girls who decided to join a sorority.
