What is the easiest way to get started with receiving counseling? FROM THE COUNSELING CENTER: Students can make an appointment with the Counseling Center in CSU285 by attending a drop-in screening appointment where they will complete paperwork and see a counselor before they leave. Screening appointments are available Monday through Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. and Monday though Friday from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Students should allow at least 60 minutes for this first appointment and can stop in when it works best for them.
The Counseling Center has compiled an interactive and downloadable resource book that students can access at any time. It covers a wide variety of topics, from eating disorders to paying rent. Consider the Language Partners Program! “Language Partners are student volunteers who work with our Intensive English Program students for two hours a week” says Daniel Greenwood, Language Partners Program Coordinator. “This is a great opportunity if you’re curious about a different culture or country. I match partners based on common academic and personal interests. When a skate blade severed his carotid artery and sliced his jugular, NHL goalie Clint Malarchuk eventually recovered, but not before struggling with mental illness. Now he speaks about mental illness, its stigma and the path to recovery. Malarchuk’s autobiography, The Crazy Game: How I Survived the Crease and Beyond, will be the focus of a Thursday, Feb. 2, lecture at 7:30 p.m. in the CSU Ballroom. The event is free to the public.
Before Ashrit was booked to the max with his coursework, he took significant responsibility in the International Festival planning. In 2019, he and one other student were the sole planners for Children’s World. He recruited international RSOs and friends to set up age-appropriate children’s booths that taught cultural lessons. In addition, he is an active member in the Computer Engineering department and other STEM organizations.
