Maverick’s pitcher Nick Altermatt was picked by the Chicago White Sox in the 17th round of the MLB 2022 draft. The 6-foot, 225-pound right-handed hurler earned conference first team honors as both a pitcher and outfielder and led the Mavericks with a .378 batting average. He also played shortstop. Sox fans speculate Altermatt could be a two-way player at pitching and shortstop positions.
Maverick sophomore sprinter Denisha Cartwright heads into the NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championships ranked among the nation’s fastest NCAA Division II sprinters. The Nassau, Bahamas, native earned her fourth NSIC Track Athletic of the Week this outdoor season following the Deb Schulz Open at Minnesota State Mankato. She is also a member of the Mavericks 400-meter relay team which holds this spring’s top time in Division II.
Chris Reed, former Maverick football standout and eight-year NFL veteran signs with the Minnesota Vikings. It rejoins Reed with former Maverick teammate Adam Thielen. The two played together during the 2010-12 seasons. Along with Detroit Lions tight end Shane Zylstra, the Mavericks have three former players in the NFL.
