As a technical lead with the Centennial Student Union Technical Services crew, Herve “Alvin” Mucyo demonstrates quiet leadership where “actions speak louder than words.” It was that natural-leader quality that earned him CSU student staff recognition and a place on the BEST Board. Outside the CSU, Alvin is active with the East African Student Association and Black Intelligent Gentlemen (BIG).

In recommending Amalia Sharaf for the BEST Board, her nominator was impressed with her multitasking abilities. “Quite frankly, I don’t know how Amal does all that she does,” her nominator said. “Her impact and reach is felt both on campus and beyond. Not only is she an outstanding leader, but she is also fully engaged in pursuits related to her academic journey.” At MSU, Amalia’s campus involvements include Student Government, MavPASS, writing for the Reporter, Honors Program, Research Assistant, Graphic Designer for the Kearney Center, and more.
Whether it was creating educational events with the Women’s Center, the LGBT Center or Veterans, Atlas James sought Student Events Team programming that sought to show commonality and opportunities to connect among students from all backgrounds, genders and sexual orientations.

She has a natural ability to think through an issue before acting too quickly. She understands what it takes to get the work done.”
Before Ashrit was booked to the max with his coursework, he took significant responsibility in the International Festival planning. In 2019, he and one other student were the sole planners for Children’s World. He recruited international RSOs and friends to set up age-appropriate children’s booths that taught cultural lessons. In addition, he is an active member in the Computer Engineering department and other STEM organizations.
Maria Rios believes that campus involvement has helped her experience the value of teamwork and dedication. Without campus involvement, Maria imagines her life would be solely academics and work which would have limited her horizons.
Joey Casey has made an impact on the community and his Phi Kappa Psi chapter. Joey shares his experiences and advises students to follow their guts to find people that share the same vision and interest to boost college experience.
